A Word from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Another school year has come to an end, and here is a chance to look back on it before we enjoy the summer holidays.

It has been a year to remember. The children went on residential trips, enjoyed day trips, represented the school in many ways, and we had an excellent Estyn inspection. Estyn highlighted the children's varied and interesting work, and how independent and confident they are. The school's innovative teaching and learning practices were praised too. Most importantly, Estyn saw a family — from the pupils to the governors, from the staff to the whole village. Thank you to the staff for their hard work throughout the year, and to you, the parents and guardians, for your steady support. #LlanfairLleol

Year 6 leave the school this week. They carry years of memories with them. Most will go to Ysgol David Hughes, with a few going to Friars, Tryfan and Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni. Wherever their next step leads them, we wish them the very best and are confident they take a firm foundation from their Ysgol Llanfairpwll education with them. We are very proud of everything they have achieved, and we look forward to following their stories in secondary school and beyond. Good luck to them all.

Enjoy the summer holidays with your families. The new term begins on Wednesday, 2 September 2026. Until then, relax and enjoy!

Sport

As ever, this half term has been a busy one on the sports field.

Despite unhelpful weather, a group of children travelled to Llangefni to take part in the Anglesey Cross Country Race. Hundreds of children from across the county attended, and it was lovely to see so many eager to compete. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and especially to Otto, who came third in his race out of more than 150 runners — a fine achievement!

A group of girls travelled to Aberystwyth to represent the school in the Urdd National Football Competition. We are very proud of their performance on the day. Well done, girls!

We also enjoyed real success at the Anglesey Swimming Gala at Holyhead Leisure Centre. Everyone gave their very best and represented the school superbly. Congratulations to you all!

The annual Bowling Festival is one of the highlights of the year for us here in Llanfairpwll. Heartfelt thanks to the bowling club and all the volunteers for organising such a worthwhile tournament once again this year. Huge congratulations to Mila on winning the competition!

The school's boys' team did especially well in the Albert Owen Shield Competition. The boys worked well as a team and played high-quality football throughout the tournament. Although they lost on penalties in the semi-final, it was a great performance and a valuable experience. Well done, boys!

Sports Day

Sports Day was a great success. The juniors competed in the morning and the reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes in the afternoon. The sun was shining, and we are grateful to you parents for lending us the gazebos! It was a good day and everyone had a great time!

The School Council café sold cold drinks, tea, fruit and donuts (very healthy, of course!). We collected £167 for the School Council account. Thank you for your support.

Congratulations to Llys Tysilio, winners of the juniors, and to Llys Menai, winners of the infants.

Summer Fun Day

The sun shone on our Summer Fun Day this year, with a Hawaii theme filling the school with colour. The children enjoyed a range of activities throughout the day: bouncy castles, games, karate, a creative workshop, ice cream and tasty mocktails. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success and full of happy memories!

Trips!

The final half term is always full of experiences and chances to make special memories for the children!

Glan-llyn was Year 4's residential trip. Sleep was in short supply, but everyone had a wonderful time! The children took part in a host of exciting activities, including water sports on the lake, climbing, archery, fire-lighting and much more. Thank you, children, for all the fun!

Year 5 went to Llangrannog, where we had glorious weather and a fantastic weekend. The children enjoyed a variety of activities, including the muddy course, climbing, the zip wire, go-karting and time by the sea. It was a special experience for everyone. Thank you, children, for your good company and for making the trip such a pleasure.

The Nursery and Reception classes went on a trip to Foel Farm Park. They had a great time meeting all kinds of animals and having fun playing with their friends.

Years 1 and 2 went on a trip to Gypsy Wood. The children had a fun-filled day hunting for fairies, playing in the park and enjoying time with their friends.

Rhyl's Water Park and Ninja TAG called for Years 3 and 4 — and what fun it was! Everyone enjoyed the water slides and pool activities before testing their skills on the obstacles at Ninja TAG!

Years 5 and 6 also enjoyed a visit to GreenWood — a special place with so much to see and do. Everyone had a wonderful time.

One Year 3 and 4 class earned an extra special trip to the Anglesey Sea Zoo after winning an art competition by creating a seahorse from recycled materials. As part of their prize, they took part in an art workshop with the environmental artist Oli, before seeing all the creatures at the Sea Zoo. It was a special experience and a great chance to learn more about protecting our environment and wildlife.

Farewell, Year 6!

It is a bittersweet time as we say goodbye to the school's oldest pupils. It has been a privilege to watch them grow, develop and mature over the years into children we are all very proud of. They will always be part of the Ysgol Llanfairpwll family, and we would love to hear of their successes as they begin a new chapter in their lives.

Congratulations to Alys Pugh on receiving the Gorau Glas Shield, presented to a pupil who has been kind and helpful and given of their very best throughout their time at the school. Congratulations also to Annabel Lloyd-Hughes on receiving the Outstanding Contributor Shield. This award goes to a pupil who has made a special contribution to school life and made the most of every opportunity offered.

We wish you every success as you begin your new journey.

School Council

What a year from the School Council! The crew raised £6,936.53 — over £5,000 went to charities, 280kg of food to the food bank, and 200 Christmas boxes overseas. The Council also paid for Welsh books for every class, a reading workshop with Anni Llyn and a Christmas party for every child. Thank you, children, for all your work for the school and the community.

Wellbeing Corner

The long summer break is here. There is no need for big plans — a few simple things are often plenty.

🌳 Fresh air Twenty minutes outside lifts the mood and helps sleep. Go for a short walk, head to the park, the beach — whatever suits you.

🗺️ Free days out There is plenty to do close to home without spending much: the library, a walk along the Menai or a picnic in the park.

Enjoy every minute of the summer.
